Prior to obtaining your Class C driver's license you must pass a written examination at the DMV. The written test for minors consists of 46 (36 for adults) questions, 38 (30 for first time adults; 33 for renewals) of which you must correctly answer to pass. In order to ease the difficulty of passing the written test, we provide free online practice examinations as a supplement to the DMV's California Driver's Handbook. If you are between the ages of 15 1/2 and 17 1/2, you must first complete 30 hours of in classroom driver's education. After obtaining a ``completion of driver's education'' certificate and proof of driver's training enrollment, you are then able to obtain a learner's permit by taking a written examination at the Department of Motor Vehicles. The learner's permit authorizes you to drive with an adult over the age of 25, however you must first complete 6 hours of behind the wheel training with an authorized driving school. You must additionally wait 6 months after obtaining a permit in order to take the road test.
